Doctors appeal for blood donation to save lives of survivors of Catholic Church attack

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)   Ondo State Chapter has passionately called on residents to come forward and donate blood to help save the lives of survivors of the mass shooting which occurred during a Sunday service at St Francis Catholic Church, Owo town of the state.

Penpushing reports that, the Chairman of the association, Dr Stella Adegbehingbe, made the appeal following admission of number of the victims at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, emphasizing that the hospitals need urgent blood donation ,as well as surgical tools for the patients.

The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) boss disclosed that Doctors attending to the victims have been overwhelmed at the hospital, adding that in the same vein, some medical personnel were having difficulty getting to hospitals in Owo because of many security checkpoints.

“They need blood. So we are telling the public to please go to the teaching hospital in Akure. We are collecting blood from the public so that we can quickly send it to them. They need blood!”,Adegbehinde emphasised

Penpushing further reports that, the chairperson of the association pointed out that, from Akure to Owo should be 35 minutes if there is not much traffic on the road, and therefore called for urgent attention by the appropriate authorities to address the difficult situation.

The gunmen it is recalled that gunmen invaded the church and started shooting indiscriminately, an ugly development which resulted in the killing of about seventy worshippers, among them children, as well as others sustaining various degree of injuries.

Penpushing also reports that, following the sad incident Governor  Rotimi Akeredolu had to cut short his trip to attend All Progressives Congress (APC) national assignment in Abuja to attend to the massacre, assuring that the perpetrators will be fish out at all cost.

The Nigeria’s President,  Muhammadu Buhari  on his own part  condemned the attack and  killing , saying Nigeria will never surrender to evil and wicked people, stressing that no matter what the country  shall never give in to evil and wicked people, and darkness will never overcome light.
