The Senator representing Lagos West at the national assembly Senator, Olamilekan Adeola, has dislodged the incumbent Senator representing Ogun West of Ogun State to secure ticket of the All Progressives Congress ticket for Ogun West Senatorial district of Ogun State as the party flagbearer for Senatorial election in 2023.
Penpushing reports that, Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, recently returned to his homestead in Yewa axis of Ogun State to contest for the Senatorial, having been offered nomination form by his kinsmen who bought the interest and nomination form for him.
The Senator on presentation of the form became emotional and burst into tears, explaining that he faced tough time and humiliation from some of his people who blackmailed him as not being an indigene, but was able to weather the storm
Penpushing further reports that, at the Saturday primaries of the party, the weeping Senator polled 294 votes at the poll held at Orona Hall, Ilaro, headquarters of Yewa South Local Government to defeat his main rival and incumbent Senator representing the zone, Senator Tolu Odebiyi, who scored zero.
The defeated Senator, an ally of former Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, arrived the venue of the primary around 12:48pm with some of his supporters and had declared that he was the only aspirant vying for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the ongoing party’s primaries for the zone.
Penpushing also reports that Odebiyi earlier in an interview with journalists said he was the only aspirant in the primaries, describing Adeola as a “visitor” in the exercise.
“I am extremely delighted that finally, we are having an opportunity to handle our primaries and more importantly, I am also excited for the people of Ogun West. For me, I don’t even think I have an opposition at this point in time. I am the only candidate for Ogun West,Odebiyi told journalists.
“My two other brothers – Isiaka Abiodun Akinlade and Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka – who came out from Ogun West had accepted via for House of Rep slots. As far as I am concerned, I am the only candidate from Ogun West. Yes, we do have a visitor (Yayi) who is with us. We would accommodate him and listen to his view and at the end of the day, I believe I am going to triumph”,the defeated aspirant had earlier emphasised
