The resolution passed by the Ogun State House of Assembly proposing to the state government to limit the number of Revenue Generating Agents/Organizations  in the transport industry to maximum of three sector to streamline the collection process and avoid leakage of government revenue is said to be causing anxiety in some quarters.

Penpushing reports that findings revealed some members of the transport union, which parades over 40,000 membership considered the proposal as detrimental to their activities as members of the union.

The members who entertained fear said the introduction may likely cause fresh crisis within the transport sector if the government goes ahead with the recommendation and proposal, adding that number of them may also lose royalty coming from the government

Penpushing reports that, one of the members who spoke with journalists,  Adeola Ogundele, pointed out that reducing the number of transport unions will lead to insecurity across the state, and may encourage criminality.

“It will be unwise for this government to say they want to reduce the number of transport unions.  They were part of the problem, because they added to the existing one when they came on board’, he said.

“If they are reducing it, they are only going to promote robbery and other social vices. It is this job that keeps many busy, and now you want to take it away from them. This is going to lead to serious crisis in the state if the government goes ahead”

Penpushing also reports that, the transport unions consist of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Park Management Services Ltd (PAM), Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Tricycle Owners Riders Association of Nigeria (TORAN).
