Gunmen have attacked military base located at Polewire along the Kaduna -Birnin Road in Birnin Gwari local government of Kaduna State, killing eleven soldiers and three members of a Pro-Government vigilante.
Penpushing reports that sources said the incident occurred on Sunday, adding that the assailants used rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons in the attack which lasted until 8pm before the bandits could dislodge the troops
The sources added that the military at about 9:15 p.m. sent reinforcement from another base in Gwaska, but no further contact was made with the assailants, stressing that the bandits commenced the attack operations at about 4.45pm
Penpushing further reports that, the military in its claim said the bandits wounded 19 soldiers and two members of the vigilante group during the attack, just as residents raised alarm that the gunmen have become a source of terror to them, and people travelling around the region
The Kaduna State and a large part of the North-west region have been under siege by bandits, who embarked on a killing orgy that has left thousands dead since they started their campaign of terror.
Penpushing also reports that, the bandits always force villages to pay protection levies while they regularly kidnap travellers and other residents for ransom, while the Nigerian government seems helpless, as the attacks have become bolder and more frequent.
