The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, has debunked speculations that he ordered the immediate disbandment of all satellite units of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and Special Tactical Squad (STS) across the country.
Penpushing reports that, the Acting Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi faulted the speculations, saying that the leadership of the police was not aware of such; hence, the rumor should be disregarded.
The police spokesman while speaking with Penpushing media when contacted to find out the authenticity of the speculations, declared that, it was false, adding that it was not to the knowledge of the authorities
‘The Inspector General of Police is not aware of such. I am also not aware of such. It is not true, you can quote me. I can tell you that, those who brought out the speculations have just pull the materials down, even the television quoted as source has pull down the report’, Adejobi said
Penpushing further reports, that, it is recalled that the speculation adorned media space on Tuesday evening, stating that the development follows the arrest of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari who was on Monday handed over to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) over his alleged role in cocaine trafficking
The rumour added that the Inspector General of Police also ordered that all serving officers in the satellite units have been asked to report to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT)for debriefing.
Penpushing also reports that, the rumour added that, in the new arrangement, the special units will operate only in their headquarters in Guzape, Abuja, with directive that serving officers and men in the unit be demobilised and posted to commands across the country.
The unfounded speculation added that the directive added that, the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and Special Tactical Squad (STS) Headquarters in Abuja should be fortified and organised for enhanced operational performance to combat emerging trends.
