Last whiteman to rule south Africa as president, De Klerk is dead

The last white man, who ruled South Africa as President between September 1989 and May 1994 Frederik de Klerk has died at 85 on Thursday, after a battle with against mesothelioma cancer,  and this was made known by his foundation

Penpushing reports that the foundation in a statement added that De-Klerk who released Nelson Mandela from prison before the latter contested and won the South African presidential election, died peacefully at his home.

“Former President FW de Klerk died peacefully at his home in Fresnaye (Cape Town) earlier this morning following his struggle against mesothelioma cancer”, the statement from his foundation emphasised

Penpushing further reports that, De Klerk was in March, diagnosed with mesothelioma – a cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, but he started a course of immunotherapy, while his  foundation assured  that there was no immediate threat at the time.

The deceased in February 1990, announced sweeping reforms that marked the beginning of the negotiated transition from apartheid to democracy, and this actions helped bring an end to apartheid-era South Africa.

Penpushing also reports that, De Klerk became one of the country’s two Deputy Presidents after the multi-party elections in 1994 that saw Mandela become President of the country after regaining freedom from prison.

The late former President won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993,and he is survived by his wife Elita, children  Jan and Susan and  grandchildren, just as the   foundation said, the family would in due course make an announcements regarding funeral arrangements.
