Fire on Saturday gutted the female hostel of University of Maiduguri destroying properties ,as well as three students of the institution sustaining injuries, the second of such incidents in one month.
Penpushing reports that, Director Public Relations of the University, Danjuma Gambo confirmed the incident, explaining that preliminary investigations had shown that the incident was caused by a kerosene explosion.
The institution spokesman said the three female victims were in the hospital as at the time of filing this report, describing the incident as unfortunate, adding that the university management was taking steps to enforce more fire safety regulations in students’ hostels.
Penpushing further reports that, sources in the university campus said it was suspected that the fire started from a cooking stove, and was put out almost immediately by the university’s fire service.
