The Provost of College of Broadcasting, an affiliate of Crescent University, Abeokuta, Dr Ayoola Ajasa has emphasized the need to train and retrain broadcasters to acquire new and updated knowledge to be abreast of the needs of the society.

Penpushing reports that, Ajasa stated this at the refresher training workshop for broadcasters in Oyo State organized as part of activities marking the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) Oyo State Chapter week.

The Academician in his keynote address noted that there is the need to have a sustained plan of purpose to move from darkness to a position of knowledge, pointing out that it becomes important if broadcasters must acquire advertisement from multinational companies through broadcast content, a factor that has become an obvious challenge in broadcast industry.

Penpushing further reports that, the Chairman of the occasion Ambassador (Dr) Yemi Farounbi had put on record a catalogue of unprofessional habits that bedeviled the practice of broadcasters.

The Chairman singled out unprofessional acts such as lack of prepared scripts,, lack of research, faulty pronunciation and insulting the sensibilities of listeners among others.

The National President of the Nigerian broadcasters, Desmond Nwachukwu in response to this obvious challenges explained that, that was one of the major reasons why the college of broadcasting was established.

Penpushing also reports that, Nwachukwu said for quality, the college is affiliated to Crescent University, to build up competent broadcast professionals equipped and certified to meet the modern day ethos of broadcasting both in the private and public sector.
