The headquarters of Gidan Madi Local Government Area of Sokoto State was on Friday evening raided by suspected bandits, numbering about 50, and carted away foodstuff, water, and other commodities.

Penpushing reports that, a witness, Basharu Altine informed that the bandits stormed the  Tangaza town on motorcycles at about 8.41pm, went straight to the central motor park, and thereafter started shooting.

“They came around 8:41 this night, Friday, and started shooting as they rode towards the central motor park. Residents were scared after the bandits started ransacking shops looking for foodstuff,” he said

Penpushing further reports that, the witness said in the course of the deadly operation, which lasted for about 40 minutes, it was glaring that the bandits were looking for food stuff as nobody was shot or abducted

The vigilante members and police officers stationed, according to another resident in the town, identified as Aminu Sodangi  who said he was on his way home when the incident occurred said they(Vigilante) were mobilised immediately after the bandits left.

“I was going home when the shooting started. At first, we thought they were there to kill and kidnap but then it became obvious that they were looking for foodstuff. But vigilante members alongside policemen and soldiers went after they (the bandits) had left,” Sodangi said.

Penpushing also reports that, as at the time of filing this report, the Sokoto State Police Command Public Relations Officer Sanusi Abubakar, was yet to make any official, statement on the ugly development.
