The immigration officials in Indonesia have subjected a Nigerian Diplomat to inhuman treatment, as he was violently manhandled and tortured in front of his official residence in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital.
Penpushing reports that, a viral video showed three men allegedly identified as immigration officials in a vehicle assaulting the diplomat dressed in a white long-sleeve shirt, who was heard crying loud that he can’t breathe well.
The footage of the video revealed two of the alleged immigration officials held the hands of the Nigerian diplomat and pinned him down in the backseat of the car, while another continued to assault his face.
Penpushing further reports that, the Nigerian government has, however, reacted to the inhuman treatment and condemned the assault, stressing that it was against international law and the Vienna Conventions governing Diplomatic and Consular Relations between States.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement said the Nigerian government has complained to the government of Indonesia, adding that the Ambassador of Indonesia in Nigeria has been summoned as at the time of filing this report.
“The Nigerian Government has complained strongly to the Government of Indonesia, and the Ambassador of Indonesia to Nigeria was summoned by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs”,the statement said
Penpushing also reports that, the statement added that, the ambassador explained what he understood happened and apologised unreservedly on behalf of the Indonesia government, and that the ambassador confirmed that the alleged immigration officials had apologised.
“The Ambassador of Nigeria to Indonesia has confirmed that the immigration official involved had since come to the Nigerian Embassy to apologise to the Ambassador and the diplomat concerned,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs Ministry further disclosed in the statement that,the Nigerian government has also sent an official protest to the government of Indonesia over the ugly development,
