A clash broke out on Monday between members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria(IMN) and residents of Dorayi Babba area of Kano when the members of the movement were stopped from holding their Ghadeer, a religious meeting, in the area.
Penpushing reports that, sources said the members of the Islamic sect were trying to hold the meeting on a plot of land belonging to one of them in the area, while some elders in the area opposed the movement.
The elders of the community were said to have earlier met the owner of the plot and asked him to sell it because they do not like members of the controversial Islamic Movement of Nigeria(IMN) gathering in their area.
Penpushing further reports that, a resident in the community explained that some elders felt unsafe with the conduct of the members of the Islamic froup, and resolved to buy the land at N12,000, but the land owner in contrast said he would sell it at N50,000
“Some of the elders felt unsafe with the Shiites gathering in the area. But the man said he would only sell the land at N50,000,000 while they said they could only give him N12,000,000,” a resident of the area’, the resident said.
Penpushing also reports that, the resident identified as Bilyaminu Abubakar stated that when some of the followers of Ibrahim El Zakzaky arrived for the Ghadeer meeting on Monday, some youth in the area challenged them.
The resident said the discussion between the members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and the residents suddenly turned violent, which also led to burning of a car ,said to belong to a resident identified as Saleh Haruna.
