The scheduled trial of , the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday was stalled following failure of the State Security Service (SSS) to produce him in court.
Penpushing reports that, the prosecuting lawyer, M. B Abubakar had earlier told the judge that Kanu’s absence might be due to “logistical” issues encountered by the State Security Service (SSS), the agency holding him in custody
The accused lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, however, countered the claim of the prosecution, saying the the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), leader had been moved out of Abuja,the Federal Capital Territory(FCT).
Penpushing further reports that, it is recalled that the separatist, who was granted bail in April 2017, fled the country after the invasion of his home in Afara-Ukwu, near Umuahia, Abia State, by the military in September of that year.
The accused was rearrested and brought back to Nigeria in June, about four years after his trial on charges of treasonable felony was stalled due to his disappearance from the country, and the judge had on June 29 ordered Kanu to remain in State Security Service(SSS) custody.
Penpushing reports that, as at the time of filing this report,it remains unclear why the spy agency failed to produce him in court on Monday, rather the operatives were noticed to have taken over the premises and the adjoining roads much earlier before the proceedings started at about 11.10a.m.
