The founder of the popular NASCO biscuit, Ahmed Idris Nasreddin has been reported dead at 96, but as at the time of filing this report, the cause or nature of the death was still yet to be made public.

Penpushing reports that, the deceased who was a reputable industrialist established NASCO Group of Companies in Jos in 1963, as the first jute bag factory in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.

The company growth from inception with little beginnings turned around to a major conglomerate with successful companies in manufacturing, real estate, hospitality and logistics, trading among others.

Penpushing further reports that, Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong in a condolence message to the family of the late industrialist expressed grief over the death of the nonagenarian, describing it as a great loss not only to his family, but Nigeria at large.

The Governor in a condolence message by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Makut Macham, eulogised the deceased as a visionary leader who established, NASCO in response to the desire of the nation’s founding fathers to meet the challenges for the effective bagging, storage and export of the large agricultural products in the country.

“This vision by the late Ahmed Idris Nasreddin saw the company growing from its little beginnings to become a major conglomerate with successful companies in manufacturing, real estate, hospitality and logistics, trading among others’, Lalong stated.

“NASCO has over the years remained a major employer of labour in Plateau and continues to contribute to the economic prosperity of the State and Nigeria at large through tax revenue and corporate social responsibility”, he added

Penpushing also reports that, the Governor pointed out that the faith the deceased had in Plateau State, was responsible for the relevance of the company till date in Nigeria and beyond, in spite of the difficult moments and experiences of various crisis.

The Governor expressed optimism that the legacies left behind by Nasreddin in the business world would continue to prevail, and equally expressed confidence that the company would continue to wax stronger, as being operated by the deceased son, Attia Nasreddin, and other members of the family.

Penpushing reports that, Lagong assured the deceased family of the support and collaboration of the state government in their operations, while praying God to grant his soul eternal rest.
