A Yoruba Pressure Group known as Omo Oduduwa Worldwide has sought for online meeting with the Acting Inspector General of Police, Alikali Baba to jointly fashioned out way of curbing crimes and criminality in Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that, the request was contained in a letter forwarded to the police boss which was signed by the group President, Oluwaseyi Daniel Ogunyemi, adding that the letter was a follow up to the earlier one sent on March 16 to President Muhammed Buhari over activities of bandits.

‘The aim of this letter is to advise the new Inspector general of Nigeria Police, that the present security and /or insecurity situation of the Nigeria state has become an unbearable, unignorable, and unimaginable. This has made the Omo Oduduwa Worldwide sad, time will fail us to start stating events one after the other, however, the event in Imo state, that lead to the police station  been burnt and where 1500 inmate was freed, and the many unrest situations between Fulani / Yoruba in some of the Oduduwa state, the kidnapping, killing raping of Yoruba people, the list is endless’

Penpushing further reports that, the body proposed a restructure to the leadership of the police within the states, lamenting that the state of security in the country has become unbearable, un-ignorable and unimaginable.

‘This has been very saddening. Time will fail us to start stating events one after the other, however some of them will be mentioned. The event in Imo state that led to the police station being burnt with 1500 inmates being freed, the several unrest situations between the Fulanis and the Yorubas in some of the Oduduwa states, the kidnapping, killing and raping of Yoruba people are a few the security issues that need urgent attention’, the letter reads.

‘We will be happy and honoured to host the Inspector General of Police in an online meeting if you would kindly grant us some audience sir. This suggestion proposal is made in good faith without anticipation of trouble or dis-quitness’

Penpushing also reports that, the group while congratulating the Acting Inspector General on his appointment, however, pointed out that, it was clear that the methods/strategy his predecessor used in policing has not been effective, and need to be re-evaluated.

The Omo Oduduwa Worldwide in the letter demanded that for effective policing in the South-West of the country  every Yoruba state shall have a Yoruba Commissioner of Police, every Yoruba Police Headquarter shall be headed by a Yoruba indigene,

Penpushing reports that, other demands of the group were that, every Division of Police in Yoruba state shall be headed by a Yoruba indigene, every police station shall have a Yoruba Divisional of Police or its equivalent and Assistant Inspector General of Police,Commissioners, Area Commander, all Yoruba indigene to head this positions.

‘On the other hand the Yorubas  shall give all the support required on all fronts in making sure that we are all safe and secure. This is due to the fact that we understand the dynamics, culture, believes and religion of our people. We speak and understand one another clearly. This will in turn make policing easier and normality will be restored to our communities.
