Insecurity: South-West governors, traditional rulers, security chiefs meet in Ibadan

The Governors and traditional rulers in South-West of Nigeria on Saturday met to appraise the security situation in the zone, following incessant challenges confronting the region, particularly the maiming and killings of residents by the Fulani herdsmen.

Penpushing reports that, the meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital came out with number of resolutions which include agreement to find lasting solution to the lingering security issues in the zone.

“That the meeting supported the decision of the National Economic Council (NEC) on forest management; that the nation’s boarders need to be fully secured and protected; that open grazing must be checked and looked at and that media practitioners must assist the country to end fake news,” .

The meeting had in attendance five Governors including Engr Seyi Makinde(Oyo),Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Kayode Fayemi(Ekit)i, Gboyega Oyetola( Osun) and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) ,as well as the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of South-West, David Folawiyo, and security chiefs serving in Oyo State.

Penpushing also reports that, others are the chairmen of Council of Traditional Rulers in each of the South-West States and some first class monarchs which include: Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III; Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; Akarigbo of Remo, Oba Babatunde Ajayi; Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, Oba Fredrick Akinrutan; Olubadan of Ibadan,  Oba Saliu Adetunji; and Olugbon of Orilegbon,  Oba Francis Olusola Alao.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, and other heads of security agencies in Oyo State were also in attendance at the meeting held at the Governor’s office chambers in Agodi,Ibadan

Penpushing reports that the Chairman, South-West Governors’ Forum, Akeredolu  while briefing journalists at the end of the meeting explained that the meeting was at the instance of the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, but the trio could not fly out of Abuja due to bad weather
