Police arrest 25 cultists during initiation in Ogun state

Twenty-five suspected members of the dreaded buccaneer cult group were on Wednesday paraded by the Ogun State Police Command following their arrest during initiation at Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta, the State Capital

Penpushing reports that, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun while parading the suspects at the Eleweran Police Headquarters in Abeokuta revealed that the suspects were among 59 suspects arrested along side three herbalists who conducted the initiation.

The police spokesman explained that the suspects were apprehended for kidnapping, murder, armed robbery, fraud among others ,adding the arrest was made possible following intelligence report that some cultists were planning to launch violence on members of the public after conducting an initiation rite for new members at Ita-Oshin axis  of Abeokuta, the state capital

Penpushing further reports that, the police boss said the command recovered axes, cutlasses, weed, suspected to be Indian hemp and regalia of their group. from the suspects, while in similar vein, three suspects alleged to have beating to death a 23-year-old man, Samuel Ajibade  over alleged phone theft, were paraded

The commissioner said the suspects pounced on the victim and beat him to death for allegedly stealing two mobile phones belonging to one of them, while another suspect Tunde Bello, a taxi driver who allegedly abducted and raped a 29-year-old lady (name withheld).is in the police net

 Penpushing also reports that, Ajogun said the suspect, a commercial driver  abducted the victim while on her way to work last September and collected N140,000 before she was released,with  a suspected fraudster, Daudu James was also paraded, while the police said the suspect specialised in swapping ATM cards of unsuspecting victims and siphoning money from their accounts.

“The suspect had succeeded in swapping ATM cards of two persons and siphoned the sum of N40,000 and N55,000 from the victims. He however ran out of luck when one of his victims sighted him in another bank trying to swap another person’s ATM card. The victim raised alarm and he was promptly arrested,”  Ajogun said.

Penpushing reports that, he added  that the suspect was arrested with 17 different ATM cards and warned criminals to relocate from the state, declaring that the police would continue to ensure that no part of the state is conducive for criminals.
