The Oyo State Police Command has lamented unlawful possession of fire arms by some residents of the state, saying that unscrupulous elements in the society have taken the advantage to mastermind inter-gang clashes towards looting and conducting other social vices.

Penpushing reports that the police urged the people of the State not to hesitate to assist it in bringing such elements to book through sharing of timely and accurate information about any unauthorized person(s) or group of persons found in possession of fire arms.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Fadeyi Olugbenga  in a statement said that the Commissioner of Police, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, frowned at the rate at which fire arms are being owned and used without license or authorization by some persons.

Penpushing further reports that the statement declared that this was against the executive order of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari revoking the right of private individuals’ licenses on fire arms or short guns in Nigeria.

The Police Commissioner, however, called on parents/guardians, stake holders, religious leaders, leaders of thought and all in position of influence to assist in correction and restoration of sanity to the security architecture of the state.

Penpushing also reports that the police boss said all hands must be on deck towards the education of youths and wards to eschewing them to shun such dastardly act gradually turning the State in the opposite direction of peace and progress.

The Commissioner therefore assured law abiding people of the State that measures have been put in place to ensure that the menace of ‘Jungle Justice’ is nipped in the bud and beyond these, strategic developments have been put in place to ensure the protection of life and order is at its peak.
