The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Nigerian Government against the alleged fake Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, Adeniyi Adeyemi.
Penpushing reports that Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge on Monday following an application by the Nigerian Government, which said Adeyemi would be transferred to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for fresh arraignment.
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, at Monday’s proceedings moved the application seeking the termination of the case, informing the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed Adeyemi’s case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police, identifying some loopholes.
Penpushing further reports that Oyedepo added that the documents allegedly forged by Adeyemi while operating the purported agency constituted offences that could be prosecuted by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation added that a fresh charge had been filed before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court and that Adeyemi would be arraigned afresh without delay.
Penpushing also reports that he urged the judge to strike out the charge in accordance with the law, however, counsel to defendant, Ibrahim Angulu, did not oppose the application, following which Justice Umar struck out the charge.
The 38-year-old defendant, was being tried in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 alongside two other defendants, whose whereabouts were unknown, on charges bordering on conspiracy and forgery.
Penpushing reports that the two defendants said to be at large were identified as Femi, whose surname was unknown, and Anu, who was also identified without a surname.
